Frequently asked questions

About the course, registration, Pennsylvania licenses and behind-the-wheel lessons.

The course

Is this course approved in Pennsylvania?

Yes. The 30-hour online driver education course is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Can I take the course at my own pace?

Yes. The whole course is online, so you can study whenever and wherever you want on your own computer. Log in, work through a lesson, and come back when it suits you.

What does the course cover?

Nine chapters: safe driving attitude, Pennsylvania laws, your vehicle, perceptual skills, basic driving skills, influences on driver performance, hazardous conditions, different driving environments and sharing the road. See the full course outline.

What format are the lessons in?

Chapters contain text, pictures, videos and helpful links. Every module ends with a review, and every chapter ends with a quiz.

Can I try it before I pay?

Yes. Open the free demo to see how the lessons work.

Is there advertising in the course?

No. Complete Auto Driving School certifies that this online course is free from advertisement and all of the material contained in the course is free from items that could negatively impact the morals of students.

Registration and payment

How much does it cost?

$99, paid once. After you submit the registration form, you're taken to the payment page.

What do I need to register?

Your full legal name (no nicknames, or you may not be credited for completing the course), address, phone, date of birth, learner's permit number, Social Security number, email and a password you choose. You'll also enter a parent or guardian's name, email, relationship and phone.

Do I need a learner's permit first?

Have it ready. The registration form asks for your learner's permit number. In Pennsylvania you can apply for a permit at 16.

I have a promo or Groupon code. Where do I use it?

There's a field for promotional and Groupon codes at the end of the registration form.

I forgot my password.

Use the password reset page on the course site. If that doesn't work, call or text (215) 558-0554.

Licenses and insurance

How does the course help me get a full license at 17½?

In Pennsylvania you can get a senior (unrestricted) license at 17½ if you have completed driver's education, which means 30 hours of theory and 6 hours behind the wheel, held a junior license for 12 months with no crashes or convictions, and have a parent or guardian's consent. You apply with PennDOT form DL-59. Without driver's education, you wait until 18.

Will I get a discount on car insurance?

You may be eligible. Your certificate of completion can be presented to insurance companies for possible discounts. Check with your insurance company for details.

Does this course include the 6 hours behind the wheel?

No, this course is the 30 hours of theory. Complete Auto Driving School offers the behind-the-wheel hours separately, or together with this course in the 7 Hours + Test + Online package. See driving lessons.

What documents do I bring to the road test?

Your permit and one other ID, like a school ID, work ID or passport. If you're under 18, you also need the Parent or Guardian Certification Form, signed and notarized.

Where can I check PennDOT's current rules?

On PennDOT's Driver and Vehicle Services site. Licensing rules can change, so it's worth checking before you apply.

Behind-the-wheel lessons

Do you offer behind-the-wheel lessons?

Yes, through Complete Auto Driving School. Packages start with a single 1-hour test prep lesson. See driving lessons and prices.

Do you pick students up?

Yes. Lessons are private, one student to one instructor, and we pick you up and drop you off at home, work or school.

What's covered in the lessons?

Your first lesson is usually the fundamentals: positioning, driving lanes, and using the gas and brake properly. The second is usually defensive driving, where you learn to scan for hazards and change lanes safely. The third is usually road test preparation.

How does the Cash Back Satisfaction Guarantee work?

If during the first hour of your first lesson you feel the lesson doesn't meet your expectations, ask your instructor to stop. You can request a refund of that first hour by mail within 15 days.

Will you book my road test?

We can help, but PennDOT now requires the last four digits of a Social Security number to schedule a road test, so you book it yourself on PennDOT's site.
